Let {ak}\{ {a_k}\} and {bk},k∈N\{ {b_k}\} ,k \in N , be two G.P.s with common ratios r1{r_1} and r2{r_2} respectively such that a1=b1=4{a_1} = {b_1} = 4 and {r_1} < {r_2} . Let ck=ak+bk,k∈N{c_k} = {a_k} + {b_k},k \in N . If c2=5{c_2} = 5 and c3=134{c_3} = {{13} \over 4} then ∑k=1∞ck−(12a6+8b4)\sum\limits_{k = 1}^\infty {{c_k} - (12{a_6} + 8{b_4})} is equal to __________.

Step-by-Step Verified Solution

{ak}\{ {a_k}\} be a G.P. with a1=4,r=r1{a_1} = 4,r = {r_1}

And

{bk}\{ {b_k}\} be G.P. with b1=4,r=r2{b_1} = 4,r = {r_2} ({r_1} < {r_2})

Now

Ck=ak+bk{C_k} = {a_k} + {b_k}

c1=4+4=8{c_1} = 4 + 4 = 8 and c2=5{c_2} = 5

a2+b2=5{a_2} + {b_2} = 5

∴\therefore r1+r2=54{r_1} + {r_2} = {5 \over 4}

and c3=134⇒r42+r22=1316{c_3} = {{13} \over 4} \Rightarrow r_4^2 + r_2^2 = {{13} \over {16}}

∴\therefore 2516−2r1r2=1316⇒2r1r2=34{{25} \over {16}} - 2{r_1}{r_2} = {{13} \over {16}} \Rightarrow 2{r_1}{r_2} = {3 \over 4}

∴\therefore r2−r1=2516−32=14{r_2} - {r_1} = \sqrt {{{25} \over {16}} - {3 \over 2}} = {1 \over 4}

∴\therefore r2=34,r1=12{r_2} = {3 \over 4},{r_1} = {1 \over 2}

∴\therefore a6=4×125=18,b4=4×2764=2716{a_6} = 4 \times {1 \over {{2^5}}} = {1 \over 8},{b_4} = 4 \times {{27} \over {64}} = {{27} \over {16}}

and ∑K=1∞CK=4[11−12+11−34]=24\sum\limits_{K = 1}^\infty {{C_K} = 4\left[ {{1 \over {1 - {1 \over 2}}} + {1 \over {1 - {3 \over 4}}}} \right] = 24}

∴\therefore ∑K=1∞CK−(12a6+8b4)=09\sum\limits_{K = 1}^\infty {{C_K} - (12{a_6} + 8{b_4}) = 09}
