Let a, b, c three non-zero real numbers such that the equation 3acos⁡x+2bsin⁡x=c,x∈[−π2,π2]\sqrt 3 a\cos x + 2b\sin x = c,x \in \left[ { - {\pi \over 2},{\pi \over 2}} \right] , has two distinct real roots α\alpha and β\beta with α+β=π3\alpha + \beta = {\pi \over 3} . Then, the value of ba{b \over a} is ............

Step-by-Step Verified Solution

We have, α\alpha , β\beta are the roots of

3acos⁡x+2bsin⁡x=c\sqrt 3 a\cos x + 2b\sin x = c

∴\therefore 3acos⁡α+2bsin⁡α=c\sqrt 3 a\cos \alpha + 2b\sin \alpha = c ... (i)

and 3acos⁡β+2bsin⁡β=c\sqrt 3 a\cos \beta + 2b\sin \beta = c ... (ii)

On subtracting Eq. (ii) from Eq. (i), we get

3a(cos⁡α−cos⁡β)+2b(sin⁡α−sin⁡β)=0\sqrt 3 a(\cos \alpha - \cos \beta ) + 2b(\sin \alpha - \sin \beta ) = 0

⇒3a(−2sin⁡(α+β2))sin⁡(α−β2)+2b(2cos⁡(α+β2))sin⁡(α−β2)=0\Rightarrow \sqrt 3 a\left( { - 2\sin \left( {{{\alpha + \beta } \over 2}} \right)} \right)\sin \left( {{{\alpha - \beta } \over 2}} \right) + 2b\left( {2\cos \left( {{{\alpha + \beta } \over 2}} \right)} \right)\sin \left( {{{\alpha - \beta } \over 2}} \right) = 0

⇒3asin⁡(α+β2)=2bcos⁡(α+β2)\Rightarrow \sqrt 3 a\sin \left( {{{\alpha + \beta } \over 2}} \right) = 2b\cos \left( {{{\alpha + \beta } \over 2}} \right)

⇒tan⁡(α+β2)=2b3a\Rightarrow \tan \left( {{{\alpha + \beta } \over 2}} \right) = {{2b} \over {\sqrt 3 a}}

⇒tan⁡(π6)=2b3a\Rightarrow \tan \left( {{\pi \over 6}} \right) = {{2b} \over {\sqrt 3 a}} [ ∵\because α\alpha + β\beta = π3{\pi \over 3} , given]

⇒13=2b3a⇒ba=12\Rightarrow {1 \over {\sqrt 3 }} = {{2b} \over {\sqrt 3 a}} \Rightarrow {b \over a} = {1 \over 2}

⇒ba=0.5\Rightarrow {b \over a} = 0.5
